Adarsh Balak
Adarsh Balak' is an art project conceived by Priyesh T in 2014. The series is a parody and critique of the educational posters widespread in Indian schools in the 80's and 90's.The works are a reaction and response to the didactic nature of social engineering and moral propaganda embedded in the posters, most times rather explicitly, under the guise of morality and virtue. The name 'Adarsh Balak' or 'आदर्श बालक' as it is originally stylized in Devanagari, translates to ideal child. It is a nostalgic subversion driven by irony and satire to undermine the intent and motivations of the original posters.आदर्श बालक is a reflection of the unapologetic inner child that dwells in all of us. The inner child that is silenced when individualism and nonconformity are bartered for societal acceptance. The series has amassed a cult following over the years thanks to social media and the works have been a part of many exhibitions, residencies and public art projects in India and internationally.
